There’s a lot that individuals can do to help tackle the environmental threats facing our planet. But for there to be a meaningful reversal of the decline in nature in the UK and around the world, businesses need to step up too.
Whether you work at a small business with a staff of a dozen people, or for a multinational with a payroll of thousands, your company can make changes to reduce its impact on the environment.
If your workplace doesn’t have a ‘green team’ to look at how it can make a difference, why not set one up? Find out where your business is having the biggest impact on nature – and ask your employer to see what it can do to tackle it.
To help start these conversations, we’ve worked with Silverback Films, the RSPB and the National Trust to create four films to help businesses understand and reduce their impact on the natural world.
Part of the Save Our Wild Isles campaign, the four business films examine a different way in which nature and business are dependent on each other, looking at topics such as ocean health, food production and the finance sector.
The series features experts and business leaders such as entrepreneur Deborah Meaden, John Lewis chair Sharon White, and Natural England chair Tony Juniper.

Around the UK, companies such as Tesco, Aviva and Scottish Power have been holding screenings for staff. Often accompanied by Q&A sessions or discussions, the films have prompted conversations that will bring about meaningful changes at these organisations.
“The Save Our Wild Isles films highlight the urgent need to restore the vast amounts of nature we’ve lost through climate change and natural resource exploitation,“ says Emma Hoskyn, UK head of sustainability at JLL.
”Businesses have a responsibility to protect the oceans and land that we depend on to live and work. The films have helped to inspire and empower businesses to act now to protect the future.”
It’s easy to arrange a screening of one of these films for colleagues at your company – our guide has all the information you need. And by sharing the films with people in your wider business network, you can spread the word about protecting UK nature.
