Ask your MP to stand up for nature

We’re calling on leaders to stand up for nature and take action on climate change. Will you add your voice to ours?

08 June 2023

Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Across the week (this year it’s from 10-18 June), people are uniting to support our planet.

From litter-picks to letter-writing, seaweed foraging to school assemblies, thousands of events celebrate the everyday actions being taken to protect our planet.

There are lots of ways to play your part – this week and beyond – but this year we’re calling on people to make their voice heard and contact their MP. We’re campaigning for ambitious nature and climate legislation in Westminster, and your support can help.

We’re asking MPs to stand up for nature by championing the voices of people around the UK who are demanding an immediate halt to the destruction of nature.

In the UK and beyond, we’re seeing the devastating impacts of floods, fires and storms. Science tells us this is a make-or-break decade for tackling climate change.

Time is short, and warm words by politicians and businesses won’t cut it – we need a decade of action by our leaders to deliver urgent changes.

We’re calling on the government to:

  • Help keep people warm each winter by rapidly expanding home insulation upgrades, quickly moving away from fossil fuels towards cheaper and cleaner renewables, and providing financial support to households in need
  • Support people hit hardest by floods, droughts and other climate disasters around the world by ensuring financial support is delivered
  • Support local initiatives to help communities reduce emissions, protect and restore nature, and support local people in the transition away from fossil fuels
  • Protect and restore our natural world to help Save Our Wild Isles for the benefit of wildlife and people

In just two clicks, you can tell your MP how important the natural world is to you and ask them to stand up for nature on your behalf.

It’s really quick and easy, and helps your MP to understand the issues that you’re concerned about. If they receive lots of emails they’ll start to take notice, so we need as many people as possible to get on board.

Get involved!

As well as contacting your MP, there are plenty of other ways to make a difference during Great Big Green Week:

  • Find an event near you – from beach cleans and nature walks to film screenings, there’s something for the whole family.
  • Share what inspires you to tackle climate change on social media with the hashtag #GreatBigGreenWeek, whether it’s your family, local wildlife or simply spending time outdoors.
  • Write a letter to a loved one, explaining your hopes and fears for the next generation to help call for political action on the climate, nature and cost of living crises.
