The UK is going to the polls on 4 July, and the next government will be in a unique historical position. This is a make-or-break time for nature and the climate, so our leaders’ decisions will have a huge impact – we’re calling on them to lead the world in creating a safer, more stable future for generations to come.
The majority of the public care about climate change and want to see action. So we’re encouraging all political parties to make ambitious commitments to protect our planet.
“The next UK government will be responsible for whether we meet crucial targets for climate and nature – and we know there is clear public support for politicians to take action,” says Tanya Steele, chief executive of WWF-UK.
“This is the economic opportunity of our generation. We urge all parties to step up their ambition and unlock a future of lower bills, future-proofed jobs and growth, a sustainable food system and a 21st century economy powered by affordable, clean British energy.”
The new UK government will need to collaborate and coordinate with devolved governments to achieve those targets.
If they don’t act urgently to meet the UK’s targets in the next five years, they’ll miss the last great opportunity to protect people and nature. This is our best chance of securing the future for our loved ones, and they need to take it.
